Mangrove Restoration Program

Rehabilitating Tanzania's degraded mangrove ecosystems through community-led planting campaigns and coastal fisheries protection programs.

TAMCO leads mangrove reforestation initiatives along the Kilwa coast to restore degraded areas, acting as natural barriers against coastal erosion and the impacts of climate change. We work with schools, youth groups, and community associations to raise awareness and actively engage them in tree planting.

Our coastal restoration work has achieved remarkable results — making TAMCO one of the most active mangrove restoration organisations in the Lindi Region.

Key achievements:
• Restored 288.8 hectares of mangrove forests critical for marine biodiversity and coastal protection
• Planted more than 486,509 mangrove seedlings along the Kilwa coast
• Engaged schools, youth groups, and community associations in active planting campaigns
• Reduced coastal erosion and improved marine habitat for local fisheries
• Raised community awareness on the importance of mangrove ecosystems

Key Activities
  • Community nursery establishment
  • Coastal erosion prevention
  • Marine biodiversity monitoring
  • Blue carbon sequestration
